Saving historic places with stories to share.
The Hudson Valley is full of old buildings that were once hubs of their communities — places we gathered, learned and did business — that are now quietly fading away.
Old Souls is a historic restoration and property management company based in Copake, New York. Our mission is to bring new life to forgotten buildings, share their history and create spaces to make new memories.
Copake Little School
The Little School, as it is affectionately known by locals, is a former two-room elementary school. Established in 1921, much of its original character was hidden when it was converted into apartments in the 1980s.
We’re uncovering the Little School’s history — peeling back the layers of vinyl siding and dropped ceilings, and sharing the memories of many Copakeans who began their education here.
Copake Train Depot
Built in 1876, the Copake Train Depot is the last remaining depot from the Rhinebeck & Connecticut railroad surviving in its original condition.
The railroad became an important means of transporting Hudson Valley farm products to urban markets. A creamery was soon built across the street, which depended on the railroad to receive shipments of milk from local farms and produced butter, pasteurized milk and cheese for the growing populations of New York and other cities.
This little depot is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and we’re hard at work preserving its history and thoughtfully converting it into a residence.
NYC Caboose 18015
Built by the New York Central railroad in the early 1900s, this caboose was used by the railroad until 1966 when it was transformed into The Caboose Cheese Shop in Beverly Farms, MA. Other former lives include a travel agency, computer repair office and antique store.
Today, caboose 18015 is patiently waiting at the Copake Depot for its newest purpose as a vacation rental with views of the Taconic Mountains and the Harlem Valley Rail Trail — where it could have traveled a century ago.
Hi! We’re Stephanie & Adam Sharp.
